Tax exemption for imports relating to the FIFA U-20 World Cup

In “exception” and with the signature of the Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, the Government allowed the importation of various products related to the U20 World Cup which will begin at the end of May and end on 11 June.

The measure concerns those goods that enter to be used in such an event, in the amount of 50 million dollarswith one exception, taking FOB values ​​as a basis for calculation.

This was sanctioned by decree 272/2023, published this Thursday in the Official Gazette. The document indicates that they “exempt import taxes on value-added tax, internal taxes, statistical service fees, ports and destination verification, which tax the import for consumption of all items of equipment sports, international press and media coverage”, merchandising” products, technological equipment, promotional materials, furniture, credentials, food and medicines and other elements for the organization and development of the “SUB-20 MEN’S FOOTBALL WORLD CUP ”, organized by FIFA 2023.

As, is fully or partially exempt from paying import duties and other taxes levied imports for the consumption of goods intended to be presented, used, given away, consumed or sold in or on the occasion of exhibitions and fairs organized or promoted by foreign countries, or by international bodies recognized by the national government.

In the introduction to the decree it is highlighted that “the holding of this event will increase the exchange of sports and cultural techniques and will contribute to the promotion of tourism and the economic development of the countrywith the aim of positioning the Argentine Republic in the main international markets”.

As detailed in the Resolution, the products that will be tax exempt:

  • Elements for the organization and development of the World Cup

“The aforementioned goods are important support materials to be used during the sporting event, therefore it is considered appropriate to authorize their importation for consumption. exempt from paying the taxes that burden themfor an amount of FIFTY MILLION UNITED STATES DOLLARS (USD 50,000,000)”, details the resolution bearing the signatures of Agustín Rossi and Sergio Massa.
