The National Energy Regulatory Agency (ENRE) approved the new tariff tables to be applied from 0 am on 1 June for level 1, 2 and 3 residential users by the distribution companies of the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA) Edenor and Edesur, through resolutions 423/2023 and 424/2023 published this Wednesday in the Official Gazette.
The new tariff tables for Edenor and Edesur users, which will be applied from next month, will reflect an increase in between 11% and 36% according to the category of each house according to the segmentation.
In relation to the current table, the average tariff of the 1st level residential category increases by an average of 11% in both distributors, but for general users G1 the increase is 41% in Edenor and 38% in Edesur, for G2 32% and 29% respectively and for G3 27% and 24%.
On the other the invoices Level 2 users increase by an average of 26% in Edenor and 22% in Edesur; those of Level 3 – low and medium voltage – do so between 23% and 13% in the northern zone of the AMBA, and between 20% and 9% in the southern zone.
Big users and social rate
The Large Users of the Distributor (Gudis), with needs exceeding 300 kilowatts (kW) increased by 12% in low voltage in both distributors, and in medium voltage by 6% in Edenor and 5% in Edesur.
And average pre-tax invoices increase an average of 36% across the two companies.
The ENRE underlined this “Level 2 users would pay an average of 64% less than Level 1 users, in the case of Edenor, and 63% less in that of Edesur”.
Furthermore, he specifies that “for the social security institutions and for the calculation of the membership fee, they must take into account the tariff table which corresponds to level 2”.
In the case of level 3, compared to the current table, the average increase will be 24%, in both distributors.
So these users up to R4, they would pay on average 66% less than those in tier 1, this percentage decreases as consumption increases, reaching an average of 11%.
The resolution also specified that, with these new tables, Edenor’s average rate is around $21,855 per kWh, and Edesur’s is $21,379.
Rate review
In the Official Gazette of this Wednesday, with Resolution 422/2023, the calendar for carrying out the Comprehensive Rate Review Process (RTI). Something ENRE announced in April this year for the distribution and transportation segments.
That process, which defines What will the regulatory framework of these public services be like?it had been suspended in December 2020 and subsequently postponed.
In the case of distribution, the measure concerns the companies Edenor and Edesur, and in transport, Transener, Transnoa, Transnea, Transba, Transpa, Distrocuyo, Transco and EPEN.
From, the calendar foresees the summoning for public hearings for distribution and transport companies together with other organisations.
