Looking at the gondola shortages of some products of the Care Prices program, the Secretary of Domestic Trade, Roberto Feletti, met this Friday with several food companies to monitor the situation. The meeting was attended by representatives of Mills, Arcor, Unilever, Mondelez, Danone, Mastellone and Nestlé. Always in a friendly tone, Feletti indicated that the level of supply in 1,350 supermarkets in the metropolitan area “is 65%, while that number historically is at 75%“. So he cited the results of inspections conducted by his office.

In this way, Feletti continued meetings with manufacturers and businesses linked to mass consumption. Since he took office, just over 6 months ago, he has tightened controls through his so -called basket policy, which so far has had no results, according to official statistics.

In its latest report, Indec revealed that Inflation in March was 6.7%, the highest in 20 years, with food impulse, which rose 7.2%, that is, above average. Consultants predicted for this month that “food inflation will increase to 6.3% per month“said an Eco Go study.

Feletti asked food companies for explanations about the shortage of certain products that make up the Preservation Prices. “We’re showing you that these months we increase production and that we deliver goods accordingly. What happens is because they are cheaper than others, the more the demand increased“, told Clarion one of the attendees at the meeting.

There have been 4 baskets implemented by Feletti since she replaced Paula Español on Oct. 12 last year, with the slogan “lowering the weight of the food basket on average in popular income.” Until that moment, Care Prices had 670 products.

Now there are 1,321, plus another 404 derived from flour, all with regulated prices. There are also 7 slices of meat, the basket of vegetables and fruits (tomatoes, potatoes, onions, lettuce and apples) and the latter, with 60 items for shops and independent self -service.

The energy of food, despite this, does not stop. Feletti acknowledged that part of the price increase was “due to the collateral effects of the pandemic and war in Ukraine” fell on a lot of company input. “If you tell us which ones went up and how it affects each particular case, we can make those links in the chain.”

The companies promised, again, to send the necessary information. The official promised to review it and also meet with other companies to monitor Precious Care’s march. “We need to analyze costs to work with clear numbers and avoid the gap between regulated products and those not from expanding,” he said at the end of the meeting.
