There is basis for the call by the Secretary of Commerce, Roberto Feletti, to the major mass consumption industries to demand a better supply of Care Prices products on the shelves: only 6 out of 10 of the products included in the list can be found in the official plan. Those are the products The most missing in the main basket are dairy products, toilet paper and oils.

“Supply is more complex in general”, maintained the director of one of the major supermarket chains: “we are approximately 20 points below historical levels and in particular Care Prices are still below 10 points ”, he commented. And he pointed out that the situation has worsened since December last year, according to estimates.

A survey conducted by the Directorate of Inspections of the Secretary of Domestic Trade in 1,350 supermarkets in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires, found a level of compliance with the official program of 65%, while this number historically stood at 75% .

In supermarkets, they argue that the shortage in supply of products with reduced prices is due to several factors. One of them is that -with a price gap between channels (cheaper supermarkets and more expensive neighborhood stores or self-service stores), which is almost 50% in some categories- convenient for the industry to supply more than the traditional channel to get higher profit margins.

Another scenario, according to the chains, has to do with the fact that Cautious Prices are used — in some cases — as a “tool” of negotiation to put other products on shelves that are not on the list. of the Program.

Exactly to address the issue of deficiencies in the Program, this Friday, the Secretary of Commerce held a meeting with the major food companies that are part of +Precios Cares.

According to the Secretariat statement, this is the first in a series of meetings to be regularly held with companies participating in +Precios Cares, an issue agreed upon with the Ministries of Economy and Productive Development of the country.

The companies present are Molinos, Arcor, Unilever, Mondelez, Danone, Mastellone and Nestlé. And at the meeting they were the ones in charge answering that they were the ones supplying the program and arguing that they had increased the production volume.

“All the companies present agreed that, by representing an average price that is lower than the products out there, The +Precios Care basket has a high level of demand, which is reflected in the ever -increasing orders from supermarkets for these products ”reported by the Secretary.
