The Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Secretariat of the Ministry of Economy reported today that the suspension of export duties for all dairy products has been extended until June 30 this year.
“This provision provided for by decree no. 9/2024 and published today in the Official Journal, requests provide greater competitiveness to the sector, through greater equity among exporting businesses,” they said.
The initiative gives continuity to what is established in article 1 of the decree of 3 October 2023, n. 506, which expired on December 31, and prevents the restoration of, for example, the export duties of 9% for milk and 4.5% for cheese.
Among the recitals of the measure it is argued that in this context of lower international prices and weak demand from the world’s main consumer, exported volumes, as well as foreign currency earnings for this concept, have been affected during the year 2022, and worsened throughout 2023, with a sharp decline compared to the same period in 2022.
“It is therefore necessary, to continue and improve the income level of producers and industry, promote the development and incentive of production and creation of added value national, increase sales on foreign markets, improve the competitiveness of the supply chain and strengthen the roots and permanence of the rural population in every region of our country”, he underlines.
Furthermore, the measure also suspends export refunds for all dairy products. In this regard, it is argued that these reimbursements “generate not only an expense for the national state, but also damage the development of a transparent and fair dairy market that requires clear, fair and equal rules for its different actors”.
It then adds that maintaining such refunds “attacks the fundamental principles of free competition in our current economy.”
