China has eliminated and reduced tariffs on imports of agro-industrial products

The Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Ministry of Economy reported that the People’s Republic of China has decided to benefit from 143 agro-industrial products with reductions or extensions of temporary tariff reductions, improving the conditions of access to that market for Argentine products.

The provision made official by Press Release no. 10/23 of the Ministry of Finance of that country, aims to reduce prices and stimulate final consumer spendingas well as increase or modify the temporary tariffs already applied, depending on the evolution of market demand and its supply in the local market.

It should be remembered that China has implemented this policy since 2016, to the benefit of all supplier countries that do not have a free trade agreement, promoting Greater openness of China to international trade.

The following products that Argentina exports to that market will benefit from new features eliminations and reductions of import tariffsas well as in the expansion of others achieved in previous years:

Vegetables and spices: Inclusion of a tariff reduction on dried sweet corn kernels (item 0712.90.99) from 13% to 0%; and coriander seeds, without crushing or grinding (position 0909.21.00) from 15% to 0%.

Dairy products: There is a reduction of 5% or 0% for infant formula for medicinal use (item 1901.90.00). The reduction was maintained on cheeses (except fresh) at 8%, on infant milk formulas at 5% or 0%, on whey at 2% and on milk proteins at 5% .

Fishing: The reduction in the tariff on frozen shrimp, excluding peeled shrimp (item 0306.17.19), of 2%, Argentina’s main export product to China, was maintained, as was the reduction in the tariff on frozen crabs (0306.14.90) . and on other frozen fish (0303.89.90) by 5%.

Fruit: The temporary tariff reduction on cranberries and other varieties of berries, fresh (position 0810.40.00) and dried (0813.40.90) of 7%, and on fresh or dried pecans (0802.99.90) of 7% is maintained. . others.

Oilseeds: The reduction of temporary tariffs on flaxseeds (1204.00.00) was maintained from 15% to 9% and on sunflower seeds (1206.00.90) from 15% to 9%.

Food: Tariffs have been reduced on several food products, such as baby food preparations, malt extract, dulce de leche and stuffed pasta.

Drinks: The reduction on orange juice (positions 2009.12 and 2009.19) was maintained from 30% to 20%.

Pet food and feed: The reduction was maintained at 2% on alfalfa bales (1214.90.00) and 4% on pet food.

Woods: The reduction for charcoal was maintained from 2% to 0%, wood wool from 2% to 0% and a greater reduction on veneer or plywood sheets and other longitudinally sawn wood, less than 6 mm thick, applying a tariff of 0%.
