The doubt is dispelled. Javier Milei’s government made it official with decree 81/2024 – published on Wednesday in the Official Journal -, paying a $55,000 bonus for retirees and pensioners for February. It’s for everyone earning the minimum wage. Those who receive an amount less than or equal to $105,712.61 today will receive the total. Those who pass it will have the necessary extra to reach $160,712.61.
Finally, for those who today have assets above that threshold of nearly $161,000, no additional payments will be charged.
According to the text of the decree, the Government defined the assignment of the bonus as having occurred in December and January: “Retirement financial assistance of up to $55,000which will be paid in the month of February 2024.” And in this sense he adds: “To receive pension financial assistance, the benefits must be current in the same month in which their liquidation is carried out and will not be susceptible to any discount or computable for no other concept”.
With inflation continuing to rise and which in December stood at 25.5% and leaves a forecast for January close to the same level and 20% for February, which indicates a cumulative figure in three months above 88%, pensioners are among the most affected sectors. As a result, it is estimated that this sector will record a worsening of almost 36%, with the aggravating circumstance that the lowest salaries have stopped receiving VAT refunds up to $18,800.
The measure is aimed at holders of contributory pension benefits provided by ANSES; beneficiaries of the Universal Pension for the Elderly; and beneficiaries of non-contributory pensions for old age, invalidity, mothers of 7 or more children and other non-contributory pensions and ex gratia pensions the payment of which is borne by the National Social Security Administration.
