Tobacco companies believe the government wants to increase the tax to 75% and warn this will impact the price of cigarettes

The Omnibus Law continues to add voices for and against its contents and this time they are tobacco companies those who warn that if approved at the National Congress there will be a direct impact on prices due to the increase in internal taxes which, they assume, may be greater than specified.

The Argentine National Chambers of Tobacco Companies, that of the Tobacco Industry (CIT) and that of Tobacco Distributors of the Argentine Republic (CDT) find themselves in a situation of notice and expectation on the fine textl of the law which will begin to be discussed tomorrow at the Legislative Palace.

According to tobacco companies, The Omnibus Law deepens the tax increase for the sector, from 70% to 75%which will be quickly reflected in consumer prices.

The cameras reported this Tuesday that “in a decision without consultation and little analysis, The National Government has decided to deepen the increase in the internal tax rate, bringing it to 75%”.
