The government of Javier Milei received this Wednesday a first disbursement from the International Monetary Fund, after the body had given the green light to the agreement announced at the beginning of the month. The Executive used a portion of that amount to pay this week’s dues.
The amount released would amount to approximately 4.7 billion dollars. The agreement was the first to be signed in the Milei government, an announcement made on January 10.
On that occasion, the Minister of Economy clarified that it was not about new money, but rather the recovery of an agreement that fell through during the government of Alberto Fernández. The agreement was reached after negotiating the seventh technical review of the March 2022 commitment.
“This disbursement is not new money, it is the money to pay the capital deadlines that occurred in December, and to do so we had to ask for money from the Andean Development Corporation, the January deadline and the one that will arrive in April,” Caputo anticipated.
