Inflation did not slow down in January in the city of Buenos Aires. He jumped slightly, going from 21.1% in December to 21.7% last monthdue to the increase in passenger transport fares (+48.8%), prepayments (+39.3%) and the increase in prices linked to tourism (+74.6%).
In food the increase was 25.4%according to the Report of the Directorate of Statistics and Censuses of the City of Buenos Aires.
With these increases, in 12 months, annual inflation is 238.5% (+40.1 percentage points compared to December), with the food with an average interannual increase of 303.1%.
According to the Rumor Report of the Buenos Aires Directorates, the price increase was as follows:
- Food and non-alcoholic drinks increased by 25.4%. The main impulse increases came from Bread and cereals (27.9%), Milk, dairy products and eggs (28.1%) and Meat and derivatives (17.2%).
- Transport recorded an average increase of 33.7%, mainly due to the increase in the prices of fuel and lubricants for vehicles for domestic use and airline tickets (93.9%).
- Restaurants and hotels The increase is 24.1% due to the increase in prices of foods prepared in restaurants, bars and taverns. Next in importance are increases in the prices of hotel services for tourism reasons.
- Health recorded an increase of 30.3%, mainly due to adjustments in medicine discounts. To a lesser extent, drug price increases stood out.
- Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels increased by 10%, due to the increase in values of rents and common condominium expenses.
- Recreation and culture recorded an average increase of 30.5%, due to the increase in the prices of tourist packages.
The Report clarifies that “seasonal goods and services recorded an average increase of 34.5%, mainly due to the increase in prices of hotel accommodations, airline tickets and tourist packages”.
In the last 12 months the greatest increases in food were recorded for Meat and derivatives (323.9%), Fruit (282.4%), Sugar, pastries and desserts (330.5%), Bread and cereals (322 .3%) and oils, butters and other fats (332.8%)
The category with The largest annual increase was that of household appliances, with 346.8%.
The Report concludes that “on an annual basis, the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages, Construction, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels, Restaurants and Hotels and Transportation divisions were primarily responsible for the increase in retail prices. explaining 60.0% of the interannual variation in the General Level.”
For February, increases in passenger transportation, prepaid fares, electricity services, school supplies and private school fees are expected to drive inflation for the month.
