Javier Milei’s government confirmed this Friday the elimination of trust funds 2 billion dollars. “Milei has decided to eliminate some trust funds. We understand, especially the President, that they lack transparency and are part of what we call political funds,” announced spokesman Manuel Adorni.
The presidential spokesperson claimed that this fund represents “about half a point of GDP, about 2 billion dollars”. “Let’s finish these boxes. We appeal to politicians to understand that transparency must be above all else,” he said.
Javier Milei announced on Tuesday, in a television interview, his decision to proceed with the elimination of these funds which represent, in total, a mass of resources close to 3 billion dollars.
“I will make a decree that eliminates all trusts, which makes many nervous,” the president fired in an interview with LN+ on Wednesday evening.
Government resumed the offensive after the defeat of the Omnibus bill in Congress and the conflict that erupted with governors last week. One of the points that prevented its approval was paragraph “h” of article 4 of the project, which gave Milei the power to “transform, modify, unify or eliminate specific appropriations, trusts or public trust funds”.
This morning, in the usual press conference, Adorni confirmed the provision and questioned whether “it is striking how politics does not agree to make transparent the millionaire funds of which it is not known exactly what and how they are used”.
“There are also things to see, like whether someone who manages the funds ends up running for president, to make a vague assumption about what might happen with these funds,” he said.
