The leasing portfolio balance was $221,281 million during the past year, following the 772 contracts signed in the last quarter. Data from Leasing Argentina, the body that brings together banks and companies that offer this type of financing, show that in 2023 and despite the economic difficulties, this type of credit grew more than other variants.
The number of leasing contracts amounted to 772 in the fourth quarter of last year, reaching a total of 4,017 in 2023, the second highest level of activity since the end of the pandemic.
The total balance involved is $221,281 million nominal growth of 118% per year, below inflation, which rose to 211%, but higher than that of collateral credit (109%), and with a default rate lower than the average of the financial system.
Leasing is an asset rental option, which generally applies to machinery or means of transport, and which allows you to pay in installments and, after the established period, choose to complete the purchase of the asset.
In the fourth quarter of 2024, Leasing financing had an average default rate of 1.44%, lower than that of the financial system in which it was located 2.67% at the end of November.
“This tool will be fundamental in this new phase of the country, depending accompany investment needs with the best costs compared to other types of financing, thanks to the tax benefits that the investor obtains by using this instrument,” explained the head of Leasing Argentina, Nicolás Scioli, through a press release from the association.
In this context, leasing operations were generated 9,012 jobs and SMEs continued to lead the sector, representing the 46.9% in portfolio participation.
42.29% of the balance of the leasing portfolio was allocated to financing the purchase of transport and logistics equipment, 27.98% to the purchase of technological and telecommunications goods, 10.95% for the purchase of construction goods, 6.97% for the purchase of industrial equipment and 3.77% for the purchase of agricultural machinery.
In terms of SME financing, The Capital Corporation / Banco Comafi is a leader in the segment a leasing portfolio allocated to this sector of 16,407 million dollarsamount representing 18% of the financing granted to this segment, followed by BICE with $12,351 million and then the Banco Supervielle with $10,195 million.
When it comes to financing large enterprises, HPE Financial Service has been the leading entity $54,882 million portfolio, followed by The Capital Corporation/Banco Comafi and Banco Supervielle.
