Daniel Ferrero manages the dairy group.
If there’s one thing dairy farmers in Argentina know, it’s the diversity which has existed in the dairy business in recent years. And the 5 members who make up the Proagro San Carlos company know this very well.
Despite this, they don’t back down and keep looking. And now a new dream will begin for this group: they are milking for the first time in the new dairy they invested in a year ago.
They work 5,000 acres of alfalfa and more than 2,000 acres of corn per year.
“We bet on a new dairy because the opportunity arose and, most of all, because we were all making dairy farms. There are good times and bad weather, but this is what we know how to do”, Stated Daniel Ferrero, dairy producer, and head of a group of producers. “This is not the first time, but nothing else”, he added on the current situation of activity.
“In the dairy, from being good to being bad is automatic. Today, the prices of beef feed (corn and soybeans) are rising because of the war between Ukraine and Russia, and this is very harmful to us. “, he meditated.
Productive losses occur mainly in the summer.
Daniel was a lifelong dairy farmer. His grandfather instilled in him a passion for dairy farming and was one of the advocates of producers who came together 20 years ago to buy food factory equipment.
Later, in 2007 they decided to build an SRL but at that point the group consisted of 10 farmers. And currently, there are still 5. The last member to retire, at the age of 80, decided to quit drumming activity. So also the group decided to rent him the dairy along with the dairy cows.
In any case, they decided to invest in a new dairy because the previous one was “obsolete” and of the 170 cows that already existed, after picking, they kept 120.
New milking room.
Today, they buy cattle because the goal of this dairy is to milk about 300 animals in July-August and by 2023, it will reach 400.
The company is committed to providing chopper services to both its members and third parties. They have a machine that works and have now invested in other equipment after hiring a third party to help them serve it. Each year, they work 5,000 acres of alfalfa and more than 2,000 acres of corn. At the same time, they clean and remove dirt from drums and feedlots, among other things.
In addition to Daniel, who manages it, it consists of Carlos Sola, Marcelo Cane, Rubén Invinkelried and Emilio Zanuttini.
Previously, 5 dairy farmers had a project to consolidate all the dairy farms and set up one for 1,500 cows-between all of them they gathered about 1,200-, but they didn’t got a field with enough space to carry. it came out.
The dairy will be based on a built system based on corn and alfalfa silos in the open. “If the field was ours, we would set up the sheds, but since it is rented, and despite the fact that the rental contract is 10 years, we don’t know if when the contract is fulfilled, they will continue to rent. to us, ”Daniel admits.
According to Daniel’s personal experience and knowing of other dairy farms without a shed, the production per liter per cow is close to 30 against 37 or 38 liters produced by an indoor farm. Those liters, he said, that are missing usually happen in the summer, beyond the fact that it can be shady ”When the cow is in better condition, more liters of milk are givenclosed by Daniel.
