“The government has decided to unblock the payment system in public transport. This happens in all cities around the world, where you can pay by card, by mobile phone, by whatever means is deemed most convenient”, said the spokesperson presidential. Manuel Adorni, in his press conference this Monday.

The spokesperson anticipated that the current SUBE card will not cease to exist, but will coexist with the new payment methods. “This means simplifying a system created 15 years ago and which still depended on charging at a kiosk or payment station,” he continued, listing the potential advantages of the methods that will be launched.

During the announcement, which Adorni characterized as “total federalization of the system”, the spokesperson did not provide details on when it will be implemented or whether it will be necessary to adapt the payment devices currently installed in buses, subway stations and on trains. It was also not disclosed whether the benefits that SUBE obtains by granting discounts when combining different transports within a two-hour period will continue to be in force.
