Amid the controversy unleashed by the Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo, claiming that prepaid pharmaceutical companies were declaring “war on the middle class” with price increases, the Government has doubled the bet and They warned that there is “a certain degree of cartelisation” in the sector “which affects Argentinians”.
“We deregulate, we give liberators, but we don’t allow there to be a certain cartelization that affects the Argentines and this is what Minister Caputo understood is happening. We are talking about a cartelization that goes beyond all reasonableness“presidential spokesman Manuel Adorni said at a press conference.
The head of the economic portfolio, who weeks ago had called for a drop in prices at supermarkets, is now questioning prepaid companies.
“Prepaid companies are declaring war on the middle class. We in the government will do everything in our power to defend the middle class,” the official said in a message on his personal X (formerly Twitter) account.
It is the second time in a few days that Caputo has attacked prepaid companies, after the companies have implemented numerous increases since Javier Milei’s government liberalized the sector’s tariffs in December.
