This is the HB4 variety developed by the Bioceres company in conjunction with researchers from Universidad del Litoral and Conicet.
Drought -resistant wheat is approved by the Government, after years of process of regulatory reviews conducted on transgenic seed varieties and which in this case implies scientific sanitary endorsement since 2020. Now commercialization will also be released.
Is about the HB4 variety developed by the company Bioceres in conjunction with researchers from the Universidad del Litoral and Conicet, led by Dr. Raquel Chan.
The resolution published this Thursday in the Official Gazette expresses the belief of the Minister of Agriculture, Julián Domínguez, who defends advances in agricultural biotechnology as a development opportunity for Argentina
“The firm INSTITUTO DE AGROBIOTECNOLOGÍA ROSARIO SA (INDEAR SA) is empowered to market the seed, and the products and by-products derived therefrom, from IND-ØØØ412-7 wheat, and all offspring derived from crossing this material with any non-genetically modified wheat, ”the official resolution said.
And it describes that “wheat varieties with event IND-ØØ412-7 can be sold after their corresponding registration with the NATIONAL SEED INSTITUTE (INASE), a decentralized body in the orbit of the said Ministry.”
At Bioceres, they are reviewing the scenario and this year they will continue working under the HB4 generation preserved identity system, awaiting more legal support through Seed Law reform, as current regulations do not guarantee commercial rights of biotechnology sellers.
Meanwhile, Trigall (the joint venture between Bioceres and Florimond, which is taking part in the HB4 event), has announced that they have made an offer to buy a large Australian seed company, following the approval of HB4 in that country last week.
