Banco Nación economist and former president Carlos Melconian participated on Tuesday in the start of the fourth edition of Economic and Development Cycle that Clarín organized and warned about the difficulties it could create in the face of 2023 “providing too many incentives and getting the rights to plans and exits”.
“We need to learn government in the coalition and remove the rift. Perhaps in 2023 a coalition will win and this will be a challenge. We need to close the agreements before the election. They’re not consensus, they’re agreements, ”Melconian said.
And he stressed the recipe that, for him, is imposed for the future of the country: “We must prepare for public sector reform, starting on the basis that there is no substitute for economic sustainability. A dysregulatory shock is urgent. The initiative should be released to the private sector. We need to discuss and choose machines for growth. Be careful about giving too many incentives and rights to the sectors, as well as the rights to plans and executions, ”he said.

Melconian was one of the economists who participated in the first panel of the “Democracy and Development” cycle, organized by Clarín, which began on Tuesday. This is the fourth edition of “Democracy and Development”. Like the previous ones, it takes place in the auditorium of Malba.
It is a cycle of 7 events on what is agreed that the country must reach to achieve continued growth that enhances and feeds exports and sustains the domestic market. Officials, academics and businessmen will participate, coordinated by journalists from Clarín. It will take place between this month and next November.
At the beginning of his presentation, Melconian stressed the importance of good harmony between politics and economic direction. “Not all politics, I’d say 50 and 50. For me the most obvious example in Argentina is Menem-Cavallo. There is a course, there is reform, but it is not complete until macro stability comes,” he said.
When examining that relationship between politics and economics during Mauricio Macri’s government, he emphasized: “This is another very good example. Macri had one of the best courses I have seen in foreign policy, but with a bad economic analysis. there was a bad program and bad results“.
Arriazu: 100 years of decay and the inflation scam
Carlos Arriazu was another of the economists who participated in the cycle that began this Tuesday on MALBA. In his exhibition hhe cited the country’s “last 100 years of decline” and referred to inflation as “a scam.”
“The last 100 years have seen decadence with all kinds of government and all kinds of politics. Here we have to see the failure of the leadership. Here we have to see the scam. The citizen seeks to protect himself from the government scam,” he said.
The economist warned that “the best (economic) program in the world” would fail without “implementation support.”

“There are 3 factors that determine the well-being of nations: effort, sacrifice and prudence, within a system that prevents stocking. Until we realize that stocking is a crime, we have no future, and until we realize that inflation is a scam, and that devaluation is a scam and the freezing of deposits is a scam and we justify it, we have no future, ”Arriazu launched.
