Digital nomads are people who travel and work at the same time, who can do their homework from different parts of the world and take advantage of it to do tourism at the same time.

In the world, according to the estimates of the national government, there are 35 million people living this way. In 2021 the government of Buenos Aires registered 4,500 foreigners in the city who were working in this way; in 2022 they were already 12,000 and it is expected that they will be 22,000 next year.

“Digital Nomads” es, in fact, the title of the dialogue organized by Clarione, which will take place this Thursday, and where this trend will be discussed. Eduardo “Wado” de Pedro, Minister of the Interior of the Nation, will participate; Sergio Kaufman, president of Accenture; Cristian Frers, Head of Real Estate Latam of the ACP Group; Mauro Zoladz, Director of the value proposition of Zurich Argentina, and Cintia Cotarelo, journalist and co-founder of the Infoviajera.com site, who lives and works in a digital nomadic way.

According to the Nomad List website, a community of over 80,000 digital nomads from around the world, Buenos Aires is the first city in the ranking of Latin America for this type of life because of the cost of living, the quality of telecommunications, the safety and quality of the night life.

36% of digital nomads work freelance for various companies and the 33% own their own business, according to a survey carried out by the Passport-Photo.Online website. From this work it also emerges that 44% of those who choose this type of job are millennials, aged between 28 and 40 years. And that 65% travel while working 1 to 3 months a year.

This event is part of the cycle “The world to come” 12 dialogues between business executives, officials, social leaders, well-known experts and entrepreneurs, led by journalists from Clarione. These are talks that try to identify the keys to the future, analyze what are the challenges that companies must face today in the changing contemporary reality.

Tomorrow, Thursday, the debate entitled “Digital Nomads” will air.at 19:00 in streaming on the Clarín.com page. The contents will be shared simultaneously on social networks and subsequently on the website and on the paper edition of the newspaper.

The national government has just launched the “Digital Nomads” initiative, a new type of visa that includes a program of ticket and accommodation benefits, among other things, seeking to attract foreigners and generate a positive economic impact on currency income foreign.

At the presentation ceremony, chaired by Minister De Pedro, it was emphasized that attracting them to the country is a way to generate foreign currency and promote tourism. “Between the ages of 20 and 40, most of them have college degrees and consume more than the rest of the tourists arriving in the country ”, the officials underlined on the occasion.

As for large companies, the issue generates some debate: attracting Argentine talent with this type of work is a brain drain that is not always accompanied by the payment of taxes or registered jobs, companies say.
