The shortage of diesel at service stations is a serious problem that slows down the harvest trend, the flow of trucks to the ports and the inflow of dollars into the country. To measure the impact of the lack of this primary input, the Federation of Grain Collectors conducted a survey reflecting the problems in availability of fuel in the main agricultural areas of the country.

According to sources consulted, there is a shortage of diesel in productive zones for efficient harvest mobilization.

The Federation reminds that there are two different ways to market fuel:

  • The diesel already sold at pumps at service stations that amount is approximately $ 114 per liter but its sale is limited to regular customers or has quotas of 20 to 30 liters per car and 80 to 200 liters per truck.
  • Ang sales for the agricultural sector and logistics companies conducted by agricultural services. In this case, the shortage is greater and the price difference is more. To date, the cost is in the $ 125 to $ 135 per liter range, according to the oil company. But at those amounts it is almost impossible to find sellers without limits.

“This strategic input is important at this time to be able to harvest summer crops (sunflowers, corn and soybeans) and transfer them to collection centers. It is important to clarify that a harvester can work in between of 50 and 60 acres a day and the fuel consumption of these engines is approximately 1,000 liters per day. We should add freight from the farm to storage plants and then to ports, ”they explained from the Federation.

Then they added that restrictions on fuel supply within the country and the expectations of lower supply in the future they bring about an increase in unsatisfied demand, which negatively affects the efficient mobilization of our harvest at crucial moments of the thick campaign.

Information obtained by the Federation of Collectors shows diesel restrictions and an impact on prices that, for example, are detailed below in average values.

It can be said that in agro-services there are shortages and therefore the quotas and their reference values are from:

  • Cordova: $ 170 per liter of diesel.
  • Central and North Santa Fe: $ 135 – $ 150.
  • Between the rivers: $ 145 – $ 150.
  • North of Buenos Aires: $ 135 – $ 140.
  • Downtown Buenos Aires: $ 140.
  • West of Buenos Aires: $ 170.
  • South of Buenos Aires: $ 150.

“This distortion in the price of diesel is caused by its relative shortage. Consequently, the solution to the problem depends on the supply of diesel fluid and not on increasing transportation rates. For this, it will help raise the biodiesel cut again, “they warned from the Federation of Collectors.

Meanwhile, grain carriers, incorporated into the Federation of Argentine Transporters (Fetra), will stage a national strike on April 11 for an indefinite period of time and cut off routes to the main agricultural region.

The reasons for the strike are mainly due to the strong rise in diesel in recent months due to the lack of this input, which is key for the farm, especially amid the soybean and maize harvest, the two main production in the country. .
