At a meeting held at the Ministry of Agriculture, the directors of the Newsan company informed the national authorities the first export of rainbow trout in Japan grown in the Alicurá reservoir.
The meeting was attended by Minister Julián Domínguez; the Undersecretary for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Carlos Liberman; and the National Director of Aquaculture, Guillermo Abdala Bertiche; and by Newsan, represented by Miguel Glikman and his management team together with the directors of Salmon Trout, the company that owns the crop located in the Alicurá reservoir (provinces of Neuquén and Rio Negro).
The company expressed satisfaction with having made the first export of rainbow trout in competitive and demanding Japanese market.
“The first expedition to the Asian country is the result of the joint work between the Salmon Trout and Newsan work teams, as well as the high commitment of the national authorities and the provinces of Río Negro and Neuquén”, it was indicated.
The project develops in Limay basin (Provinces of Neuquén and Rio Negro), in disease-free waters certified by SENASA and the World Organization for Animal Health.
The rainbow trout has been bred by small and medium-sized producers for 35 years; it is a “wild” species and fully incorporated into the ecosystem of the region.
Regarding the project, it is technically led by PhD Gabriel Morales (CONICET Researcher) and carried out in total harmony with the environment and with the well-being of the fish, highlighting the particularity that it is not necessary to resort to pesticides or antibiotics, and that it ensures an equivalent density. 99% water and 1% fish.
“The excellent environmental and sanitary quality of the water, combined with responsible breeding, allow us to obtain a unique quality product that is highly appreciated on international markets,” it was reported.
“Argentina’s natural conditions for this type of crop represent a great opportunity and we believe this will be the first of many exports, contributing to foreign exchange earnings, the development of regional economies and the growth of a strategic industry with a focus on to the ecosystem, “said Miguel Glikman, director of Newsan Food.
The rainbow trout breeding project that Newsan develops in collaboration with Salmon Trout involves an investment of 22 million dollars and aims to reach a volume of 13 thousand tons in the first five yearsaddressing not only exports but also the domestic market, replacing the salmon that is now imported entirely from Chile. Likewise, it will lead to the gradual generation of 250 new jobs, not only in crops, but also in a new factory of transformation that will be established in Bariloche, also allowing the shipment of fresh products to different markets around the world.
