The head of the Buenos Aires government, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, participated this Tuesday in the knowledge economy panel organized by Clarín as part of the cycle Democracy and development and claimed that this industry has “the handbrake on”.

“There is a lot of potential, but we have to assume it it is an industry that has the handbrake on. The macro context does not help at all due to very high inflation, labor legislation, stocks of shares, all of which hinders “, launched Rodríguez Larreta during his presentation.

The mayor of Buenos Aires also underlined this “the potential of the knowledge economy is throughout Argentina”.

Insisting on criticizing the government for the economic situation, Rodríguez Larreta stressed that “with these levels of inflation there is no knowledge economy, there is no economy of anything“.

For Rodríguez Larreta, the consequence of this “brake is that thousands of Argentines who work on their own and could export their talent today they do it almost in secret for fear that the government will hijack their jobsthrough the exchange gap and high taxes “.

And he added: “And what’s worse, thousands of other highly skilled Argentines, many of them from industries related to technology and knowledge, they are leaving the country frightened for the uncertainty that all this generates “.

The official once again criticized the government’s economic policies and said the knowledge economy is an example of what he calls “contained Argentina”: “That Argentina that has a lot of potential for producing and creating jobs, but due to bad decisions it is running, unable to unfold ”.

As in many of his speeches, Rodríguez Larreta insisted on his criticism that the government does not have a plan. He called for a “global plan that stabilizes the economy, ensures stability, generates fiscal and regulatory incentives, revolutionizes education and, furthermore, strong deregulation for each of the sectors with the greatest potential, such as the knowledge economy, way that the obstacles and barriers that slow down their growth are eliminated“.

“I have already said it several times, the transformation that Argentina needs is very profound. And it must be sustained over time. For this reason, for it to be a true state policy, it requires a broader political consensus”. added Rodríguez Larreta.

This is the fourth edition of the cycle Democracy and development. This year’s focus is “The engines of Argentina’s growth” and is sponsored by Pan American Energy, Techint, Globant, Banco Macro and Telecom. The third D&D talk, entitled “Knowledge economy for development”, will be held this Tuesday in the auditorium of the Malba Museum.
