Inflation for the month of June was 5.3%as reported Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INDEC), announcing the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

In May, the number that the government had released was 5.1%, showing a two-month downward trend: in March it was 6.7% and in April 6%.

With the June value, inflation is once again a cumulative year-over-year record higher than last month’s 60.7%.

In June, the retail price index was supported by the increases in June which were recorded in electricity services (16.5%) and gas (between 18 and 25%), in addition to those of prepaid (10%) , schools in the province of Buenos Aires (8%) and diesel (12%).

Market analysts consulted by the Central Bank prior to the resignation of Economy Minister Martín Guzmán expected retail inflation to be around 5.4%.

Also, financial market agents raised inflation estimate to 79.2% for the full year, according to a survey carried out by the BCRA between 27 and 30 June.

The Minister of Economy, Silvina Batakis, had avoided making a projection of inflation for the current year: “It would be very unprofessional of me if I risked saying today what the projection of inflation is in this situation of imbalance unprecedented global “.
