Winter holidays: AFIP hunts for dodgers in ski resorts, luxury hotels and luxury huts

Under the premise of increasing collections, the Federal Revenue Administration (AFIP) went on a hunt for tax evaders during the winter holidays and focused on ski resorts, luxury hotels, and high-end cabins.

In a few days, the organism already done hundreds of checks and millionaire fines and store closures.

AFIP, through the General Tax Directorate (DGI) and in collaboration with the General Directorate of Social Security Resources (Dgrss), has initiated inspection and control tasks in localities and establishments throughout the country as part of the tourist season winter.

More than 400 agents were reportedly employed for the detection possible tax evasion and labor fraud maneuvers in ski resorts, restaurants, hotels and businesses that welcome tourists with a high tax capacity.

Since the winter control and inspection activities on the relevant activities began a week ago, the specialized areas of AFIP have carried out activities 335 fiscal controls on various establishments.

Following these procedures, the DGI and the Dgrss have found “serious inconsistencies in the field of work which, together with the tax irregularities found, have given rise to 29 illegal acts including millionaire fines and temporary closures of various premises“.

As indicated by AFIP, “the procedures are centered on the localities that during the winter season have a greater influx of tourists with high purchasing power as well as the ski resorts “.

In this sense, during the tourist season, AFIP will also control access to national and thematic parks, restaurants and bars; luxury hotel chains and high-end cabins.

Through the specialized areas of the DGI and Dgrss, it will be present with inspection and control actions for recreational activities and ski resorts in Mendoza, Neuquén, Chubut and Río Negro.

Similarly, in Buenos Aires, Cordoba, Tucumán, San Juan, San Luis, Salta and La Rioja, the tasks will focus on shops, gastronomy and accommodation.

The inspection and control assignments consist of telematic and face-to-face checks on the invoicing of companies, on the payment of taxes and collection methods, and on compliance with employee registration obligations.
