The British fighter jet, a competitor of the Scaf, will be ready to take off before 2030

During the Farnborough International Air Show, the British Ministry of Defense announced the reinforcement of the Tempest program, the plane of the future competitor of the Franco-German Scaf.

At the Farnborough Air Show, the UK announced the reinforcement of the sixth generation future aircraft programme, the Future Combat Air System (FCAS) launched with Sweden, Italy and Japan. A demonstrator of this device, a competitor of the Scaf (air combat system of the future), will be ready to fly in five years. According to the British Ministry of Defence, it will equip the Royal Air Force from 2035.

Project “Storm”

The Tempest project, which includes with BAE Rolls-Royce, the European missile manufacturer MBDA and the British subsidiary of Leonardo, has a budget of 2.7 billion dollars from the British government until 2025 with an additional 900 million dollars from private companies.

For the Tempest program, the manufacturers also plan to recruit 1,300 young graduates by the end of 2023.
