After its launch in the north of France in 2021, Picnic heads to the capital. According to the German weekly Lebsensmittel Zeitungthe Dutch startup that delivers groceries to homes using small electric vans expects an arrival in Berlin and Paris in 2023.
A recruitment drive across the Rhine has already started and an application for a building permit for a distribution center will be submitted soon, according to the RetailDetail site.
After Paris and Berlin, PicNic should continue its deployment in Europe in Frankfurt and Hamburg. The company also plans to launch it soon in Poland and Italy.
Competitive prices
Unlike other delivery services, orders placed with Picnic must be placed before 10:00 p.m. the day before delivery and the amount of the basket must be at least 35 euros. It is then the dealer who dictates the delivery schedule.
A mode of operation that may seem uncompetitive compared to services that promise delivery in less than 10 minutes. But Picnic stands out with more affordable prices: delivery is completely free and the products are cheap. In Valenciennes, prices were aligned with those of the Leclerc hypermarket. Enough for the Dutch supply to be 7.5% cheaper than the average price of records in French hypermarkets and supermarkets, according to retail specialist Olivier Dauvers.
