Farnborough Air Show: Latam Airlines orders 17 A321neos from Airbus

LATAM, the largest airline in Latin America, filed for bankruptcy in 2020 in the United States, struck down by covid.

Airlines continue to shop at the Farnborough Air Show, all committed to renewing their fleets to support the strong recovery in traffic.

This Friday, Airbus announces that LATAM Airlines has ordered 17 A321neo aircraft to further expand its route offering, bringing the total number of aircraft in the order book for this aircraft to 100. In addition, the airline has also confirmed the arrival of the A321XLR to complement its long-haul operations.

2,300 A320neos delivered in 6 years

“We welcome LATAM’s strategic vision and sustainability ambition. This order for the A321neo following its restructuring is a strong signal of the value that Airbus brings to the realization of this vision and ambition. The A321XLR will enable the opening of new routes and will allow LATAM to increase its international reach in the region”, commented Christian Scherer, Commercial Director and Head of Airbus International.

The A321neo is the largest member of Airbus’ popular A320neo family, featuring next-generation engines that deliver more than 20% fuel and CO2 savings, as well as a 50% reduction in noise.

Since entering service six years ago, Airbus has delivered more than 2,300 A320neo Family aircraft, contributing to a 15-million-tonne reduction in CO2 output, the planemaker adds.
