Consequence of the threats of a tax on super profits or not, TotalEnergies makes a new gesture in favor of the purchasing power of the French. The company announced this Friday to commit to a massive fuel price reduction program until the end of the year.
After offering a discount of 10 cents at the pump, then 12 cents throughout the summer, TotalEnergies has decided to increase it to 20 cents from September 1 to November 1. Then it will drop to 10 cents from November 1 to December 31.
Above all, unlike this summer, the discount will be applied at all TotalEnergies service stations, and not just those installed on highways.
It will continue to be cumulative with the discount of 18 cents from the government, effective from April 1, which will be decreasing until the end of the year.
Bruno Le Maire celebrates Total’s decision
“This commitment by TotalEnergies is in addition to government measures to directly support the purchasing power of the French. Therefore, our priority is for consumers because we prefer to make an immediate and direct contribution to our customers, instead of an indirect tax that would penalize our refineries”. .”, greets Patrick Pouyanné, CEO of the company, quoted in a press release.
“With this program of massive price reduction in our stations, we hope that this long-term commitment, which will be heard by our customers, will also be heard by the national representation,” he added.
Guest on BFMTV and RMC, the Minister of Economy, Bruno Le Maire, hailed Total’s “correct decision”.
“Instead of setting a new tax, a systematic Pavlovian reflex, you have a reduction of 20 cents that will be renewed. Our method is better for our compatriots,” he said.
