This boost was foreseen in the preliminary versions of the measures of purchasing power, currently under consideration in the Assembly, but finally it disappeared from the reforming finance bill (PLFR).

Elisabeth Borne opened the door this Thursday to a doubling of tax-free aid that companies can pay employees to cover their fuel costs, raising the ceiling to 400 euros, in an interview with the EBRA group newspapers.

This boost was foreseen in the preliminary versions of the measures of purchasing power, currently under consideration in the Assembly, but finally it disappeared from the reforming finance bill (PLFR).

“The philosophy is to protect the purchasing power of all French people in fuel at the beginning of the school year, and for companies to take over,” said the prime minister.

Or a 50 cent discount at the pump

“They could pay tax-free aid of up to 400 euros to their employees who have high consumption, the equivalent of a discount of almost 50 cents at the pump for an employee who travels 12,000 kilometers a year,” he added.

The return of this provision occurs when the executive and Les Républicains try to reach an agreement in the face of the high level of fuel prices, within the framework of the discussions in the Assembly.

On Wednesday, the head of the LR deputies, Olivier Marleix, had called for the ceiling of this transport premium to be raised. “We would like it to be increased to 400 euros,” he had indicated on franceinfo.

In addition, the executive, who wanted to gradually extinguish the current reduction of 18 cents per liter of fuel to replace it with another device, would be willing to finally extend this reduction by increasing it.

“Oil prices are falling, which allows us to be less worried,” said Ms. Borne, as she advocated “keeping prices affordable at the start of the school year in September.”

New unemployment insurance reform

In addition, still looking for a majority in the Assembly, the head of government said that she wanted to continue “with all those who are willing to find a way with us”.

But, what would be your reaction if the majority was due to the National Group votes?

“The deputies of the RN were elected like the other comrades. I am not going to start counting the votes differently from the rules that apply to the National Assembly,” he stressed.

“But the majorities that we are going to look for, discussing the articles upstream, are in the Republican arch”, argued Mrs. Borne.

In this same interview, the Prime Minister reaffirmed her desire to carry out a new unemployment insurance reform “by recognizing that, at a time when companies cannot hire, the rules are increasingly restrictive and, on the other hand, side, more protective if the employment situation is less favourable”.
