The selection of 48 products among the 200 most purchased by French consumers it costs 140.44 euros this week in our test drive. A strong increase in the basket compared to the previous week, but with a small change to note (see chart below).
Our basket has changed slightly.
Please note that two household products included in our basket, Sanytol grapefruit disinfectant spray 500ml and Saint-Marc wipes x40, are no longer sold at the dealer. During our last price survey, carried out on July 15, our selection cost 141.19 euros. For this basket to be comparable to this week’s basket, you must subtract the two products that are no longer available. Removing these two products, the bill then drops to 137.36 euros the previous week.
An increase of 3.08 euros
Between July 15 and 25, our BFM Business trolley jumped 3.08 euros, 2.24% more. Since the beginning of our price survey in May, this is the strongest progression.
Of the 46 products, 18 have seen their price rise compared to our July 15 price survey, and 10 have dropped. Among the most important novelties: +19 cents for Président sweet butter (2.27 euros) in just ten days, +14 cents for grated Emmental also from the Président brand (1.59 euros), +17 cents for cloth of kitchen MDD (1.97 euros).
Above all, Pampers Baby Dry diapers, on sale for several weeks, have seen their price increase by 1.90 euros, to stand at 16.84 euros. A price that, however, is still lower than the one practiced on May 11, during our first price declaration. The pack of diapers was then sold for 20.99 euros.
0.6% increase from early June
Inflation has been accelerating for several months, driven by energy and food prices. Food prices rose 5.8% year-on-year in June, according to INSEE, and 0.8% monthly. Since June 2, by eliminating the two products that are no longer available today, our basket has increased by 0.6%.
Please note that the BFM Business cart is a testimonial from an average consumer and reflects how brands try to limit price increases with promotions. It’s not about questioning real inflation recorded by INSEE or the panelists who collect hundreds of thousands of prizes every month on all channels.
Since May, we’ve been seeing frequent big discounts on a limited number of products. But these are the most expensive products in our selection, such as the pack of 47 Pampers diapers, the Ricard bottle or the Senseo coffee pods.
