The Government has decided to extend the registration on the register keep subsidies. Families who want to withhold subsidies on their electricity and gas bills must fill out a form. The initial deadline for completing it was Tuesday evening. For those who have not arrived, there will be – at least – another five days, until July 31st.

The Secretary of Energy has asked all families in the country to do so fill out a form, with your income and assets situation. It is up to determine which people should keep the subsidies and which ones have the resources – at the discretion of the Government – to pay larger amounts in their electricity and gas bills.

More than 6.3 million families were registered. Almost all (97%) will keep the subsidies. YesOnly 3% of those who entered state that they have a high incometherefore it will lose the subsidies “gradually”, according to the official definition.

In any case, the government deadlines could undergo further changes. Proof of this is what happens to Anses. The social security agency helps people fill out forms, for those who can’t or need assistance. There they will take turns for August 12. It is because of the number of people who have requested the help of that body exceeded the expected capacity.

The Secretariat for Energy can allow two parameters: close the registry for the houses next door and keep the one for Anses open, something you will have to do until August 12th. Or unify the criteria and leave both open until that date.

The government had announced a new tariff for 1 August. By that date, it was estimated that the list of families to be subsidized would be finalized. But now that list will be incomplete, at least until August 12. For this reason, the Secretariat for Energy could postpone the publication of new tariffs.

Although the government talk only about a $ 1,200 per month increase in an electricity bill, the increase would be 300%. The tax savings for this year will be $ 15,000 million, as announced by the Secretary of Energy, Darío Martínez.

Summer is the period of greatest electricity consumption. Removal of subsidies would generate a savings of 100 billion dollars in 2023, according to official projections. This is because in the last three summers (2020, 2021 and 2022) the consumption of electricity in homes has been subsidized. In 2023 it will no longer be in the high-income sectors.

Those who sign up until the end of the month will be able to keep their grants if they have one net income of less than $ 348,000 monthly or if they have less than three properties and three cars.

Whoever goes to Anses in August has a certain advantage. From next month the minimum minimum income rises to $ 364,000, due to the adjustment of the total base basket (CBT) amount. In this way, the universe of those who will be able to keep state subsidies expands.

The nation state subsidizes 80% of the cost of electricity and light in the bill. The government tries to preserve this advantage for the low- and middle-income sectors, but remove it from the high-income sectors.

The biggest tax savings of 2023 could also be generated by the removal of additional subsidies. For example, if the second decile of income is removed (the next highest income 10%). In this lot, they keep it.

Former Economy Minister Martín Guzmán clashed with the structure of the Ministry of Energy which resisted further increases. The new minister Silvina Batakis seems to be following Guzmán’s example. The Secretary of Energy has begun to defend the interest rate policy in a way he had never done before.
