“The fire started on July 12. Since July 18, we have seen a drop in the number of tourists who were already there and cancellations of reservations for the coming weeks,” Yves Foulon, mayor of Arcachon and president of the union, explains on BFMTV. intermunicipal. of the Arcachon Basin.

And the councilor appeals to tourists: “the images that have been broadcast nationwide have shown a forest in the process of degradation,” he acknowledges. “Everyone knows it, all of France knows it, but our message is to say that the Arcachon basin (…) is in good condition.” In fact, the seaside resorts, from Arcachon to Cap-Ferret, were not affected by the fires.

Accommodation, restaurants, leisure… All sectors are suffering from the desertion of tourists. Therefore, the inter-municipal union of the Arcachon basin has released 100,000 euros to reassure visitors through communication campaigns, but also a large meeting of boats in front of the Dune of Pilat, this Wednesday.
