Inflation reaches 6.7% in supermarkets in July

The increasingly expensive races. According to panelist Iri, inflation of consumer goods (food + hygiene) continued to accelerate in large distribution in July, up to 6.71% annual, compared to +4.90% in June and +3.81% in May.

With an increase of 11.44% and 9.05% respectively, the products of “first price” brands and private labels (MDD), for which the weight of raw materials is greater in the final price, are much more inflationary than the big national brands (+5.70% ). And therefore it will penalize consumers who choose these more affordable products more strongly than those of the big brands.

Frozen meats, the product that increased the most in July

In detail, by products and all channels combined (hypermarket, supermarket, discount, proxy, drive), frozen meats are the ones that increased the most in July (+25.93%), ahead of minced meats (+19, 36%), pasta (+18.47%) %), homemade pasta (+15.79%) and cooked pasta dishes (+15.63%).

On the contrary, general detergents (-0.62%) and aniseed snacks (-0.52%) saw their prices fall. For their part, the prices of dishwashing detergents (+0.09%), make-up (+0.91%) and shower gels (+0.94%) increased very little.

Finally, it should be noted that discount stores continue to be the circuit where prices increased the most in July (+7.88% in one year), ahead of convenience stores (+7.19%), supermarkets (+ 6.90%), hypermarkets (+ 6.35%) and driving (+6%).
