The Minister of Economy reiterated his refusal to tax groups that have made significant profits in recent months. “Companies can and should contribute differently”, insists Bruno Le Maire.

Bruno Le Maire definitively closed the door on a super-profit tax during a press conference on Friday. “I am proud of the results of our tricolor companies. And I am surprised to see how much we overwhelm the French companies that show good results with all the evils, ”he criticized. “Couldn’t we be a little happy about that?” he wondered.

“Does that mean that they should be exempt from any contribution to the national effort? Of course not!”, he stressed, recalling that the Government wants companies to start direct aid to the French, such as the discount at the TotalEnergies pump . or the check for the most modest of Engie.

“As soon as there is a problem, a tax”

“Our compatriots prefer to have their money in their pockets than in the pockets of the State”, emphasizes the Minister of the Economy.

Since the announcement of the results of TotalEnergies on Thursday, the political debate has been relaunched around a tax on “crisis speculators”, these companies that generate significant profits thanks to the health crisis or the war in Ukraine.
