The Senate voted on Tuesday afternoon a Government amendment to the draft amending budget for 2022, which enacts aid of 230 million euros for heating homes with fuel oil, proposed by opposition deputies. In the National Assembly, the amendment of LR Jérôme Nury had been voted with the alliance of the Nupes, LR and RN oppositions, while the Government defended a more limited measure of 50 million euros.
The Government reform approved by the Senate provides for the opening, in the “Energy, climate and post-mining” program, of 230 million euros in credits “to finance targeted support measures for low-income households still heated by fuel oil” , in a context of rising energy prices”. These measures will be specified by regulation and will be limited in time.
3 million people heated with oil
The Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire, proposed involving parliamentarians in defining the targeting of households that will be able to benefit from this additional aid. Three million people are still heated with fuel oil, according to the minister.
According to rapporteur Jean-François Husson (LR), “a form of targeting seems necessary, first of all to exclude households that heat their second homes with diesel”. The Senate must complete the first reading of the finance reform bill by 2022 overnight.
