New episode in the confrontation between Airbus and Qatar Airways. According to Reuters, the European manufacturer has revoked the entire remainder of its contract to deliver the A350 to the airline.
At the end of June, Airbus still had to deliver 19 examples of its plane to Qatar Airways.
This decision comes after months of wrangling between the two sides. Qatar Airways criticizes the A350 aircraft for a peeling coat of paint that poses a risk of fire in the tanks.
Move to Boeing
Airbus has acknowledged a technical problem but denies any risk to the safety of the aircraft. Qatar Airways is seeking $1.4 billion in compensation after the Qatari regulator grounded almost half of its A350 fleet.
While the case is now before the British courts, Qatar Airways is now refusing to take delivery of the new A350s. For its part, Airbus already terminated, last January, a separate contract for the delivery of 50 A321neo.
For Qatar Airways, this conflict jeopardizes its strategy of increasing power, while the country will host the soccer World Cup next November. In July, the company announced the completion of an order for 25 Boeing 737 MAX-10s.
