Claudio Lozano has extended his resignation as much as possible.
Silvina Batakis’ desire to rearm the board of directors of Banco Nación, of which she was appointed president after her short stint at the Ministry of Economy, is gradually starting to crystallize. For now, this Wednesday the Official Gazette has confirmed the departures from this entity by Claudio Lozano, Federico Sánchez and Guillermo Wierzbawho acted as directors.
The decree 477/2022 reports the acceptance of Lozano’s resignation, while the decree 476/2022 confirms the resignations of Sánchez and Wierzba. Both regulations bear the signature of Alberto Fernández and the Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa.
In the end, it was about an express request from the President, in response to the request made a few days ago by Batakis, who intends to transfer the members of the team he worked with in Economics to Banco Nación.
This position did nothing but open a front of conflict that was not on anyone’s agenda. Lozano, for example, has extended the presentation of his resignation as much as possible. “I have not done it yet. I’m trying to see if this is really an instruction from the president. As soon as I have confirmation, I will submit my resignation, “he said on Tuesday.
“We were surprised that Batakis asked to behead the entire management of the bank, which was not correct. Now the presidency has asked and we are amazed that they want to compensate in this way when the management of the Nation has been successful,” he lamented. .

On Monday, Lozano said that Eduardo Hecker’s replacement “is another director” to whom Alberto Fernández has entrusted the task of presiding over the bank. He also assured him that he was not “screwed in the position”.
Previously, the president of the People’s Unity had already expressed his criticisms of Batakis when she was appointed minister of the economy. On that occasion, you accused her of having made an “exaggeration of the fiscal adjustment” and stressed, in parallel, that your appointment of her in the portfolio held by Martín Guzmán was not enough to reverse the economic crisis.
Coincidence or not, it is the decree that marks the departure of Lozano which, unlike that of Sánchez and Wierzba, it does not have the article in which the resigning officials are thanked for “the valuable services rendered in the exercise of their functions”.
Silvina Batakis’ goal: to put reliable people
Silvina Batakis’ plan at Banco Nación is, in principle, to bring about 25 people to Nación and put the people of her utmost confidence in at least four of the nine board chairs. Her intention is reportedly to appoint Karina Angeletti (former Secretary of Economic Policy), Martín Di Bella (former Secretary of the Treasury), Martín Pollera (former Secretary of Internal Commerce) and José Ballesteros (former Legal and Administrative Secretary) as administrators. ).
The former Secretary of the Provinces at the Ministry of the Interior now hopes that the definitive composition of the board of directors of Banco Nación will be established – and of course made official -, as happened with her, when she was confirmed in office last August 5 through the decree 457, signed by the President and by Massa.
