A power outage is currently affecting part of downtown Toronto, Canada. This was announced this Thursday by the electricity distributor Hydro One (H.TO) on its Twitter account.
The blackout started around noon (local time) and lasted until mid-afternoon. Many users reported the outage on Twitter. Hydro One estimated that 10,000 users were affected, according to Reuters.
“We are looking for the problem that affects the supply of Toronto Hydro (the local unit of Hydro One, editor’s note) and its customers,” the distributor said on the social network, just under an hour later.
A crane at the origin of the incident?
The Toronto police, who also reported this failure, invited motorists to understand intersections as “four-way stop signs” in the event of a traffic light failure. Sure your Twitter account, the City of Toronto has announced the closure of the historic St. Lawrence Market until power returns. One of the city’s largest shopping malls was evacuated and bank branches were closed, Reuters also reported.
Shortly before 2:30 p.m., Hydro One announced that a crane could be the cause of the incident. On Twitter, the company referred to “reports that a barge carrying a crane had come into contact with power lines in the Port Lands district,” an industrial area of the city.
