Malaysia Airlines will acquire 20 long-haul Airbus A330neo jets, half from a lessor and half from the European manufacturer, the latter announced on Monday.
Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), the parent company of the Malaysian airline, has selected the plane as part of its long-haul fleet renewal programme, Airbus said in a statement.
$296.4 million per unit at list price
No amount was provided, but the plane was worth $296.4 million per unit at a purely indicative list price, based on 2018 figures, the latest released by Airbus. The price that the airlines pay is actually always much lower. The A330neos will join the six A350-900s already in Malaysia Airlines’ fleet and gradually replace its 21 conventionally powered A330ceos. The A330neo, for “new engine option”, offers new generation engines that are more fuel efficient.
Airbus and MAG have also signed a letter of intent to explore the possibility of a broader collaboration in the field of sustainability, training, maintenance and airspace management, according to the same source.
