Already received at the beginning of the month by the inhabitants of Mayotte and Réunion, the Back to School Allowance (ARS) will be paid this Tuesday, August 16, to families in mainland France, the Antilles and Guyana. Particularity of this year: its payment will be made in two installments since the revaluation of 4% voted by Parliament at the beginning of August will not be distributed in a second installment, “a few days later”, indicates the Ministry of Solidarity and Health.
In total, more than 3 million families (approximately 5.5 million children) will receive this aid aimed at financially supporting households with the cost of going back to school. To benefit from it, you must be responsible for one or more children between the ages of 6 and 18 who are in school, apprentices or cared for in a specialized care establishment.
Paid subject to means test
ARS is also paid subject to means test. For this, it is necessary not to exceed certain limits that the Family Allowance Funds determine based on the income received in 2020. This annual cap on resources is set at 25,370 euros per dependent child, 31,225 euros for 2 children, 37,080 euros for 3 children and 42,935 euros for 4 children.
The amount of aid varies depending on the age of the children. After a first revaluation in April of 1.8% and then a second of 4%, it will rise this year to 392.05 euros for children from 6 to 10 years old, to 413.69 euros for children from 11 to 14 years old and 428, 02 euros for children from 15 to 18 years old. . The total cost is estimated at more than 2,000 million euros.
Note that if the household’s resources slightly exceed the limits established by the CAF, it is still possible to receive the back-to-school bonus, but with a reduced amount.
Exceptional back to school bonus
For parents of children aged 6 to 15 who have already received ARS, there is no action to take: the subsidy is automatically paid by CAF or the Mutuelle sociale agricole (MSA). For those who did not receive any subsidy, however, it is necessary to register on the CAF website. In addition, for children 6 years old after December 31, 2022 but admitted to CP this year, parents must present a school certificate. Finally, an online declaration is enough for children from 16 to 18 years old.
The back to school bonus should not be confused with the exceptional back to school bonus expected for the month of September. This aid of 100 euros, increased by 50 euros per child, will be paid to the beneficiaries of certain aids (AAH, RSA, APL, scholarship holders). People who receive the activity bonus will also be entitled to it, but for them the amount paid may be different. A decree specifying the terms of this exceptional bonus is expected in the coming days.
