According to the president of Air Caraïbes and French Bee, airline ticket prices are expected to rise further this winter due to rising fuel costs.

The prices of airline tickets are through the roof: according to figures from the General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGAC), they have risen 43.5% in one year in France, all routes together. On the only medium-haul flights leaving France for European destinations, they even increased by more than 54%.

“There are sectors that are much less [haussiers]. In the West Indies we have an increase between 14% and 20% depending on the route, it is just the repercussion of fuel prices, price inflation, our social costs”, assured Marc Rochet.

However, according to the chairman of the two airlines operating in the Overseas Territories, “a part [de la hausse des coûts] is still to come”. “For Air Caraïbes and for the French bee, even if we have the best planes in terms of consumption per seat, oil represented 30-35% of our costs, we are going to 45%” “So, inevitably , there will still be price increases of 5 to 10% during the winter and next year.”
