The German manufacturer of the Thermomix Vorwerk warned users of the TM6 model on Tuesday of the risk of burns when cooking at high temperatures.
“In extremely rare cases,” Vorwerk said in a statement, that increased pressure from a food-clogged measuring cup can cause a “sudden, uncontrolled overflow of hot food,” resulting in burns.
The food processor manufacturer specifies that this risk is more likely “if the recommended fill level is exceeded”, and if the measuring cup is used in “previous generation” models. When cooking above 95°C, Vorwerk recommends using the simmering basket “instead of the TM6 measuring cup, which is firmly attached to the lid.”
A precedent in the TM31 model
Vorwerk specifies in the same press release that “the recipes available in guided cooking have already been adapted” and that “the Thermomix TM6 software has been updated”. A previous model of the robot-kitchen was pointed out for burn risks by consumer associations and by the Fraud Repression (DGCCRF).
In 2018, Australian courts fined Vorwerk more than AUD4 million after dozens of burns caused by leaking liquid or food while cooking in the Thermomix TM31. This same model had been the subject of a gasket replacement campaign in 2014.
