Auchan recalls shrimp contaminated with bacteria

A recall procedure has just been initiated against thawed raw shrimp containing the Vibrio vulnificius bacteria, close to the agent responsible for cholera. The unbranded products were mainly distributed in Auchan stores.

Be careful if you bought defrosted raw shrimp at an Auchan or Atac store in the past week. Sold in an unbranded 2-kilo Styrofoam box, these fishery and aquaculture products could carry the “Vibrio vulnifivius” bacteria. That is why these batches of shrimp are the subject of a notification published on the specialized site “Rappel Conso”.

Although it is little known by the general public, the “Vibrio vulnifivius” bacterium is close to another better known one, which is called “Vibrio cholerae”. As its name indicates, it is the causal agent of cholera.

Serious non-intestinal disorders

The site recommends no more consuming, or even destroying, the prawns that have been sold in various Auchan group stores since last Tuesday. It is also possible to obtain a refund at the store where the purchase was made.

The latter indicates that pre-existing wounds can cause skin infections when handling the products. Finally, he adds that the deep cooking of the shrimp at a temperature above 65 degrees “allows the destruction of these bacteria and prevents the consequences of said contamination.”

History of cheeses in recent months

This is not the first time that Auchan and Atac stores have seen the products they distribute removed from the market due to health risks. Last March, the two brands were affected by the recall of “Hauts-de-France chicken nuggets” from the Secrets Volailles brand that contained ballpoint pen residue.

Three months ago, this was also the case for diced Abadía cheeses contaminated with the Listeria bacteria responsible for listeriosis. More recently, La Reine du Nord cheese brand “Slices of Pavé du Nord Jeune” were also at the center of a recall due to possible excess chlorine stabilizer.
