In July, the creation of companies in France increased for the second consecutive month. A trend that is largely explained by the increase in registrations of micro-enterprises.

Business creation in France continued to rise in July, after an initial pick-up in June. In July, 88,588 companies were created, which represents an increase of 4.4%, INSEE reported this Friday.

This trend is largely explained by the new registrations of micro-enterprises, which increased by 5.5%, and, to a lesser extent, of traditional companies, whose increase reached 2.8%. The number of company creations had already rebounded in June (+2.6%) after two consecutive months of decline.

The increase affects all sectors of activity, in particular business support with an increase of 5.1%, followed by commerce, in particular in the car repair segment (+4.2%), as well as in transport and storage (+6.5%) and in industry (+7%).

The number of companies created in 3 months decreases

“The accumulated number of companies created during the last three months has decreased compared to the same months of the previous year”, specifies, however, the INSEE. In particular: the sharp drop in the creation of traditional individual companies (-14%).

Despite its recovery since June, the transport and storage sector, which includes home delivery, for example, “is the one that contributes the most to the fall” in the quarter, comments INSEE.

In the last twelve months, the total number of companies created has also decreased (-2.6%) compared to the same period of the previous year.

The creation of micro-enterprises decreased “more moderately” (-3.3%) than that of traditional sole proprietorships (-12.6%). On the contrary, according to INSEE, the creation of companies is growing strongly (+4.1%).
