The President of the Government, who spoke during the Medef REF, asked companies to establish sobriety plans to reduce their energy consumption.

Companies will have to prepare for possible energy rationing in the coming months. Between the closure of several nuclear reactors due to corrosion problems and the drop in Russian gas deliveries, the coming winter promises to be tense for the French electricity grid. Especially since Moscow could completely turn off the gas tap to put pressure on Europe. Speaking this Monday from the Meeting of Entrepreneurs of France (REF) of the Medef, Elisabeth Borne warned the companies.

First evaluation in October

“If we don’t do this, if everyone doesn’t do their part, sudden gas cuts can occur overnight with serious economic and social consequences,” warns Elisabeth Borne, who wants to go “beyond” the first steps already given by the companies. . To “overcome this risk of shortages”, the head of government asked the companies to establish, in September, an energy “sobriety plan” to reduce their consumption and prevent the government from being forced to impose rationing.

In addition, Elisabeth Borne clarified that the Government is planning to implement a “consumer rights exchange market” and that “adapted support measures” could be launched for the affected companies. The first executive gave “an appointment at the beginning of October” to the companies to make a “first assessment” of the sobriety plans and analyze the “forecasts of the experts”. “Then I will present the different scenarios and we will have a clearer view of the risk of rationing,” she said.
