The Government has launched a new edition of the Pre-Trip, the third, which includes price caps and maximum rates on accommodation. All this is part of an agreement in which the Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, his counterpart in Tourism, Matías Lammens, the Secretary of Commerce, Matías Tombolini and the main Chambers of the hotel and tourism sector participated.
According to the announcement, to participate in the Previaje (a presale program that reimbursement of up to 50% of expenses in national tourist destinations) suppliers who join voluntarily they should adjust their prices “at the maximum rate established for each category and type of business (from 1 to 5 stars)” and its control will be the responsibility of the Secretariat of Commerce. Companies and operators who do not respect the agreement will be excluded from future editions of the program.
“We believe in the program, but we also believe that it cannot end up playing against it in terms of inflation. The sector must make the effort together with the state e this price order will help us reduce inflationary expectationsMassa said.
The agreement on the maximum price is the main novelty of the new Previaje. For what, “the latest rates available in low season have been taken as a reference in the main destinations of each province, that is the one corresponding to June and July 2022 ”, reads the press release and adds that about 200 thousand accommodation values were collected to establish the maximum prices.
The Government estimates that the first two editions of the program benefited 5 million tourists, with an economic impact of 165,000 million dollars. Its goal is to promote Argentine tourist destinations, but in the off-season. On behalf of the private sector, the agreement was signed by the leaders of the Argentine Chamber of Tourism, Gustavo Hani; by the Federation of Gastronomic Hotel Enterprises of the Argentine Republic (FEHGRA), Fernando Desbots; by the Hotel Tourism Association (AHT), Roberto Amengual; and by the Association of Hotels, Restaurants, Confectionery and Cafes (AHRCC), Daniel Prieto.
The release of PreTrip 3 has been delayed for budget reasons. Its start was scheduled for early July, but it was postponed due to changes in the government’s economic area. It was initially designed with the intention of reactivating the domestic tourism sector, one of the most affected by the pandemic.
Its mechanics are simple. Suppliers must register to participate. Users, for their part, will receive reimbursement of half of the expenses incurred in the authorized places: travel agencies, flights, long-distance buses and accommodation. Now the hotel they must offer rates that do not exceed the permitted ceiling.
According to data from the Ministry of Tourism, in the last Pre-Trip (as part of these winter holidays), more than 300,000 people benefited from the program. It is estimated to have generated around $ 9 billion in industry revenue. Bariloche, San Martín de los Andes, Puerto Madryn, El Calafate and Ushuaia lead the ranking of Argentines’ favorite destinations.
