A slight respite in inflation but that couldn’t last. If the price rise was less intense in August according to INSEE with the index’s first decline in 13 months, we should not expect a decline. So believes Alexandre Bompard, CEO of Carrefour, guest this Wednesday on RMC-BFMTV. For him, the question of peak inflation doesn’t really make sense.
The Carrefour group, like all the big players in retail, multiplies commercial initiatives to mitigate the cost of inflation on purchasing power and, incidentally, build customer loyalty and gain market share. Carrefour has thus blocked the prices of 100 products for 100 days and promises new commercial offers for the end of the year.
In addition to inflation, it is energy sobriety that is currently worrying the retail sector. The brands estimate that their energy bill could increase by 1,500 million euros a year, and ask for the establishment of “an emergency regulated rate accessible to companies, while the crisis lasts”, on “2023 at least”, according to a statement from press. Statement published on Wednesday.
The Government, for its part, asks the sector to reduce its energy consumption by 10% this winter.
Thus, Carrefour will invest 320 million euros over the next two years to reduce its energy consumption by 20%.
Looking ahead to the coming months, Carrefour assures that it is prepared to deal with voltage drops in the electrical network.
