This amount reported by Bercy represents no less than one point of GDP.

The account is salty. According to the figures published this Thursday by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the bill of the different shields on the price of energy that the Government has launched for a year already reaches a cost of 24,000 million euros.

Specifically, the freezing of regulated prices gas at its October 2021 level will have cost €6 billion.

Limiting the increase in regulated electricity sales tariffs cost €10.5bn (not to mention the €8bn costs for EDF under Arenh for alternative providers).

Finally, discounts at fuel pumps have generated a cost to date of 7,500 million euros.

10.5 billion for electricity alone

In total, these expenses represent 1 point of GDP according to Bercy, which specifies that this figure is intended to evolve based on energy prices and, therefore, will only remain stable once the year is over.

However, this policy has positive effects on households and inflation is confirmed this Thursday by INSEE.

“Between the second quarters of 2021 and 2022, when combining the increase in the price of electricity, gas and oil products (and therefore gasoline), energy prices thus increased by 28% for households; this increase would have been double without a shielding measure (+54%). For companies, which depend more than households on electricity, energy is 20% more expensive, compared to 50% without shielding”, underlines the study.
