Kristalina Georgieva will see Massa on 12.
The International Monetary Fund has confirmed that this Monday – vacation in the United States – will begin working in Washington with the economic team and that Minister Sergio Massa he will meet the managing director Kristalina Georgieva on the 12th in this capital.
The crisis of the Argentine economy I couldn’t even wait for Labor Day, Labor Day, that does not work in the United States and when most Americans take advantage of it to travel because it is the last long weekend of the summer.
On the same day, a team led by Luis Cubeddu will meet a technical delegation from our country “to work on the second revision of the program supported by the IMF for Argentina,” said a spokesman for the Fund.
He added that “the teams, which have worked virtually closely, will continue discussions on macroeconomic perspectives and policies to strengthen stability and ensure compliance with the program objectives.”
From the Fund they also confirmed what had already escaped Buenos Aires: that On September 12, Minister Massa will meet Georgieva at the headquarters of the international organization a few blocks from the White House.
It will be the minister’s first contact with Georgieva, who a few weeks ago received Silvina Batakis, who lasted just 21 days in her office, despite having repeatedly indicated that she had the internal support of all branches of the All Front.
Massa will not only see Georgieva. He is also expected to meet with senior officials from the Fund, including the first Deputy Director General, Gita Gopinath, and the Director of the Western Hemisphere Department, Ilan Goldfajn.
The “advanced” will arrive in Washington this Sunday to begin working with the Fund team on Monday. This entourage is made up of the secretaries of the Leonardo Madcur portfolio (head of the councilors): Raúl Rigo / Tesoro); Gabriel Rubinstein (Economic Policy); Eduardo Setti (Finance), Lisandro Cleri (Central Bank) and Marco Lavagna (Indec)
The following day is expected to arrive in Massa and a large delegation including the Minister of Tourism, Matías Lammens; the Secretary of Energy, Flavia Royon and the presidents of Enarsa, Agustín Gerez, and of YPF, Pablo González. Batakis, who now heads the Banco Nación, would also travel.
The goal of Massa and his team with the Fund is to review compliance with the program objectives and move forward for the $ 4 billion disbursement in September. You could also apply for a new loan from the Resilience and Sustainability Fund and you could have some extra cash at a time when reserves are in the red.
In Washington, Massa will also meet with the US Treasury authorities, with whom he will advance the tax information exchange agreement in AFIP and IRS to detect irregularities and evasions. And you will also meet directors of companies with interests in Argentina and authority of the American Chamber of Commerce.
It will also visit authorities from international organizations such as the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the World Bank to expedite lending and with investors to ask them to do business in the country.
But Massa does not neglect the political side. He will meet Juan González, President Joe Biden’s advisor for Latin America, with whom he has a good connection. When the Colombian-born American was in Buenos Aires, Massa invited him to dinner at his house and the last time the Tigren was in Washington, she went to dinner with him on a terrace overlooking the White House.
Massa and his delegation will also travel to Houston to promote Argentina as a land of opportunity for the energy sector.
