With food inflation advancing more than 1% per week, price deals between the government and companies are shorter and shorter.

In August, shortly after taking office, Commerce Secretary Matías Tombolini signed a extension of the Cortes Care program, which sets values for a group of seven cuts of meat, available in different chains.

This agreement lasted for a month. For this Tuesday a new extension was signed, maintaining the same values until 30 September.

Cuts and prices are as follows:

  • Roast: $ 736
  • Buttock: $ 1,009
  • Matambre: $ 938
  • Blank: $ 965
  • Skirt: $ 483
  • Palette: $ 817
  • Asado Tapas: $ 736

The cuts will be available across the country from Monday to Friday in over 1,000 outlets including supermarket chains Coto, Jumbo, Plaza Vea, Disco, Carrefour, Walmart, Changomas, La Anónima and Día%; the wholesale chains Vital and Makro and the butchers affiliated to the Argentine Meat Industry Union (Unica) and the ABC export consortium.

How do the increases come?

} In July, inflation reached 7.4% and was the highest since April 2002. In that month, the price of food and soft drinks increased by 6%. So far this year, the price increase has reached 46.2% and the Food and Beverage category 48.3%.

In August (official data will be known on Thursday 14th) inflation is expected to fluctuate between 6% and 7%) and, in September, the consultancy company EcoGo is already talking about 6.3%.

In the center, the meat “lowers the indicator”, says the consultant led by Marina Dal Poggetto. In the first week of September, the category recorded an increase of 1.2%, a deceleration from the 1.8% increase it had the previous week.

Beef increased by 0.6%, driven by semi-finished products (3.1%). Those that increased the most were chickens (2.5%) and cured meats (2.3%).

Within the CPI, the food and beverage category has a weight of 23.44% in the GBA and in particular meat and its derivatives, it contributes 6.98% to the inflation index. In other areas of the country, on the other hand, meat has a greater weight in the index: for example, in the Northeast it reaches 13.27% and in the Northwest it reaches 12.50%.

The Beef Promotion Institute (IPCVA) monitors prices by cut. In his latest report, in July, he revealed the following values:
