This recital was born from Ricky Martin’s dream of being able to present a concert with a classical orchestra, taking their songs to a new levelrealizing that meeting between the two worlds without losing its essence.

The experience of the two concerts presented in July, at the Hollywood Bowl with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, was the litmus test. Far surpassed, together with the 60 classical musicians directed by Dudamel, Ricky sold out both shows within hours.

I’ve always dreamed of performing with a philharmonic and do a classic show. Being able to transform the songs and present them in such a unique way is something I had the opportunity to experience this year in Los Angeles and it was really wonderful, “said the singer.

He added: “The next day I thought it would be great to be able to take this recital to other countries, so I called my team and the rest is history. Buenos Aires, see you next month!“.

In that concert, after being presented by Dudamel as an “icon of world culture”, the singer offered one of the most exciting and singular concerts of his career accompanied by 80 musicians from the Philharmonic Orchestra and its band of musicians and dancers.

“Tonight we will remember the past, with a little romance and a touch of energy and, as I always tell you, I want you to forget your problems and focus on love and light. We will have a lot of fun”, assured Ricky. before performing hits like The Bomb, Maybe, She bangs, Maria, La Mordidita, Vente Pa Ca and her new single Sour taste.

The experience of other artists

The Puerto Rican is not the only artist who has chosen the symphonic format for his concerts. Other musicians have also presented versions with this classic format for their recitals.

Gustavo Cerati was one of them, for example. The former Soda Stereo performed in April 2002 at the Teatro Colón with the National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Alejandro Terán and practically performed songs from his album Blow. The show, unusual for a rock artist, had premiered a year earlier at the Avenida Theater. His album came out of that concert 11 symphonic episodes.

Charly García also chose this symphonic format to perform at the Colón in 2013 with Parallel lines – impossible artifice, a recital for which he summoned the conductor Patricio Villarejo to give it a more intimate and chamber sound.

In 2006, Luis Alberto Spinetta performed many of his classics such as Maribelat the helm of the Academic Orchestra, also in the emblematic Teatro Colón.

A year ago Fito Páez honored Charly García, on the occasion of the musician’s 70th birthday, with a moving concert at the Colón Theater, full of guests. Fito reviewed Charly’s songs accompanied by his band, along with an orchestra and musicians from the mythical Colosseum in Buenos Aires.

Last month, Pedro Aznar also launched into this format and performed in two symphonic concerts with the Bogotá, Colombia Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, where he performed pieces by Serú Giran and others from his solo stage.
